Body language is a fascinating method of communication. Your outward appearance and expressions can say a lot on their own but now it has been discovered that if you control your outward expressions it can change your disposition.
A couple of researchers, Dr. Eric Finzi and Dr. Erika Wasserman, gathered 10 people that suffer from major depression and were not responding to drug therapy or other approaches. Instead of being treated using conventional methods these subjects were given botox injections on their frown lines. Two months after the treatment nine of the ten patients were no longer depressed.
The botox treatment in the frown lines prevent the muscles in the face where the injections are made to contract into a wrinkle, or a frown. Botox blocks the nerve impulses that cause the contractions.
Apparently botox is considered to be very safe with little side effects. Side effects are usually related to the local injection such as discomfort from the needle, and possible bruising at the site of the injection.
So if you can't frown, you just might not be able to be depressed. Smile nice for the camera!
